Hello, this is Salanne posting for day number 1.
Well, let me start from the moment the clock striked 12, the moment the day turned 17 May. Well, we were...erm...in the plane, taking a rest. Okay, more like SLEEPING. Considering that we had school as per normal the day before, it was a miracle none of us dozed off while waiting for our flight. I guess adrenaline really works, better than coffee (caffeine, to be exact).
Anyway, at 12 midnight, we were still passing through security checks. Checkpoint after checkpoint. It seems that I can never get on to the plane, to add on to the excitement (or disappointment) , it was my first time ever on a plane, or on something that flies. Anyway, at 1am, we got to the boarding gates and I was like, "OOOOHHH!!! THIS IS IT!! I'M GETTING ON A PLANE!!" My friends thought I ate too much nuts. Finally, we were in the plane, and in the air. On the way to Perth!
It was about 6am when we touched down in Perth. Finally! I was getting a bit restless, especially sitting beside someone I don't even know. Security checks...again. And out into the main hall of the airport. The hall was soon filled with HIHS students and of course the other passengers. When we stepped out of the airport, my friends and I had the same reaction, "WAHH! SO COLD!!" On the coach/bus, I was busy snapping pictures away, at any possible thing I've never seen in Singapore. Soon, I was sleeping, like most people who did not have a good sleep during the flight.
First stop was KINGS PARK. I think I knew why it was called Kings Park. It was HUGE!! Compared to Singapore, it was enough to fit an Orchard Road in it! My friends and I snapped pictures, fooled around like children and of course, "snatching" each other's jackets or gloves. Although the Sun's rays are pretty strong, the heat was not doing us any good at all. It was being overwhelmed by the cold weather. And yet, I see locals jogging in sleeveless shirts and shorts! WOW! The birds there were BEAUTIFUL!! They showed no fear when we tried to snap pictures of it UP CLOSE!
Next stop was the war memorials. On the way there, everyone entered dream-land. At the war memorial, I suddenly felt sad for the people who lost their lives during wars. World War Two, the Vietnam war etc. So many lives lost in just a short period of time. My heart goes out to them and their families. Number of victims ranges from thousands to hundred thousands.
All that walking and fun we had makes us all hungry. I was craving for something fried (yes, I'm someone who does not care about calories! For now..) but western. True enough, FISH & CHIPS!! OOOHHH!!! It was so fresh!! It is obviously the best I've ever tasted. And it goes well with fizzy lemonade. For the rest of the trip, I fell in love with that particular lemonade.
After that, we went to the weekend markets. It is similar to Bugis street in Singapore, but it focuses more on tourists than local fashion or culture. All of the sudden, I felt like spending money in Bugis street when I get home. There, we bought FLOONIES for Ms Michael and Ms Quan as a farewell gift and a birthday gift. We hope they like it. (:
After that was an hour long bus ride to Orchard Glory farm where we will be staying for the next two days. At first glance, it seems like paradise. It was so peaceful, so quiet and plenty of fresh air. Just like my dream home in my mind: the countryside. The simple life. (: No wonder I was not used to the air when I got home. The apartments were comfortable and realistic, as if my friends and I have been living in that apartment for months!
That was pretty much what happened during the first day in Perth. Hope you enjoyed my little story-telling! Gd'day mate!~ =D
